About Beanie Babes Crochet Hello and welcome. Thanks a million for visiting! Let me share with you the story of Beanie Babes Crochet. It is a much loved solo project created by me, Jacquie Russell. Do you remember the saying, 'every-cloud-has-a-silver-lining'? Well, my 'cloud' was a breast cancer diagnosis. My normal life and work as a Supply Teacher was interrupted by treatment and convalescence. I had to take a year off. I was more than a little 'put-out'. My world was shaken and challenged by illness. I had to do something to keep sane, so I chose to rediscover crochet. Day after day, I busied myself with yarns, crochet hooks and streams of utube video-clips. I revised what I already knew and developed my skill.
It's hard to describe the pleasure I get from doing crochet. I love the texture and feeling of soft wool between my fingers as I twist and turn the hook, creating malleable form through connecting tension. When it goes well, it's more than a craft - it's an art.
For the past 6 years, I've been out in the communities of South London, selling my beautiful beanies at markets and craft fairs; which is great, because I get immediate feedback which enables my practice to grow.
Now - I have this website. I share my love of crochet with you. Enjoy!
